R: Rock Me Amadeus

“Er war ein Virtuose
War ein Rockidol
Und alles rief
Come and rock me Amadeus”

This is one crazy song and just as a crazy of a video.

After all of these years I still have no idea what Falco is singing in this song. I always just mumble along until I come to, “Rock me Amadeus”.

Rock Me Amadeus became the first number one song from a German-speaking artist on the US pop charts. Now before everyone starts yelling, “Well, what about Nena and 99 Luftballons?“, Nena only hit number two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. I know! I thought that was a number one song too.

Rock Me Amadeus was also rated number 87 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s and number 44 on the 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders.

Falco died tragically in a car crash in 1998 at the age of 40. He was in the midst of planning a comeback, but he will forever be remembered for this 1985 smash pop song.
