“Kýrie, eléison, down the road that I must travel
Kýrie, eléison, through the darkness of the night”
This was another of my favorite songs of the ’80s. We even sang and performed this song in my Chorus class. Every time the song comes on the radio I have to sing the Alto part, just like Toto’s, Africa. We had a pretty hip Chorus teacher, or at least he tried to be hip.
I really had no idea what Mr. Mister was singing in the chorus. “Kýrie, eléison”? It actually means, “Lord have mercy” in Greek. Huh! Who knew?
Kyrie was released in late 1985, but didn’t make it to number one until early 1986. It remained number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for two weeks until Starship’s, Sara, dethroned it. Ooh, Sara. That is another of my favorite ’80s songs.
The video was recorded while Mr. Mister was on tour with Tina Turner and features some pretty awesome ’80s hair!
I found this record a few years ago at my awesome local used book/record store. It was in the dollar bin! Score for me, but sad for Mr. Mister. I did have this on cassette in the ’80s, but not on vinyl. I do now.
I can’t say I’ve ever heard that one! Great post, and happy A-Zing!

I love this song. I even liked this one better than “Broken Wings”.
